Join us on a talk and walking tour of the Santa Barbara Cemetery with David Petry, author of The Best Last Place, a history of the Santa Barbara Cemetery. Founded in 1867, this cemetery has passed through every type of formal cemetery development in the United States, from town cemetery to memorial park, and beyond.
It has also attracted actors and architects, business and political leaders, military, musicians and murderers. Fess Parker, Laurence Harvey, and Ronald Colman are the leading men among the actors.
The chapel is a George Washington Smith and Lutah Maria Riggs masterpiece, finished off inside with the beautiful and controversial Alfredo Ramos Martinez murals.
